Troy

Troy is our resident Head Barista and Roaster. He worked at Mecca Ultimo for two and a half years before joining us at Matinee Coffee. He chooses and roasts our coffee selection, then happily runs it through the La Marzocco Linea PB to make delicious fresh brews for you. He fell into coffee after a European tour convinced him to drop out of university and pursue a job in hospitality. He loves working in coffee because cafes are the cultural hub of the community. Troy’s favourite dish at Matinee is the Rice Pilaf with Cauliflower and Hash Browns. Some things you should know about Troy are that he is vegan and he loves filmmaking, Tottenham Hotspur FC and video games.

Nick

Nick is our Pastry Chef. His dedication and eye for detail has helped him develop a delicious range of pastries bake fresh in house. You can find him in the kitchen five days a week, baking key lime pies, croissants, pretzels and other scrumptious treats. He has focused on providing yummy sweets that are also vegan, dairy free and gluten free to ensure that everyone can enjoy his creations. He is currently experimenting with a range of pastries for wholesale and can make cakes on request for especial occasions, so please feel free to give him a call if you’d like him to make one for you!

Ben

Ben is our Head Chef. He has made his career in hospitality, having worked in the industry for many years. He sources fresh ingredients and brings a new twist to classic café dishes to make your dining experience a little bit special. He thrives in a busy kitchen and with his calm and relaxed manner he can whip a perfect meal even on the busiest Sunday brunch. His café menu caters to a range of dietary requirements to help everyone feel welcome and at home.

Charles

Charles is the owner and manager of Matinee Coffee. He has worked in the industry for over ten years all over Sydney. He was one of the founding owners of Brewtown Newtown and now brings his expertise to his own solo venture, Matinee Coffee. He designed Matinee Coffee to reflect the glory days of the Milk Bar Cafes started by migrants who brought a bit of glamour, excitement and a good time to the suburbs in which they settled. He wants Matinee to be a place where everyone is welcome, and where a spontaneous outing becomes a delicious and special casual dining experience. When he is not busy making coffee or running service, Charles lives in Sydney’s Inner West with his wife and young daughter. He is very happy to think that Matinee has become a part of the community and he hopes to serve you for many years to come.
